Description:
Welcome to the
Hartbeespoort Oord/Resort, a gem of a 20 hectare place nestling at
the foot of a mountain with terrain varying from jungle to smooth
green grass. It has a variety of accommodation choices from camping
to caravanning and safari tents, log cabins and chalets to a
youth/backpackers hostel divisible to cater for all sizes of groups,
with excellent, modern, clean ablutions.
There are swimming
pools, a high water slide, trampolines, a fully-fledged skate park,
jumping castles, childrens’ playground, lapa, tarred roads and easy
access. Hartbeespoort Dam is Gauteng’s booming playground. Come and
see for yourself
The Hartbeespoort
Area around the resort has become a thriving, modern expanse of a
town, a mixture of quaint old and popular modern. Restaurants range
from fast foods to traditional and country and includes Portuguese,
Italian, German, serving from vegetarian to eisbein, hamburgers to
T-bones, pizzas to espatadas. The area has a variety of pubs, flea
markets, tourist shops, roadside exhibitions, art galleries,
sculptures and even a rock collection....
Accommodation:
Chalets:
These are modern brick self-contained houses with all the modern
conveniences, including 2-plate stove, fridge, microwave, bedding,
linen, fan, cutlery, crockery. All you need to bring are towels,
soap, food (if not dining at the excellent restaurant) and the
expectation of a great holiday.
There are three
sizes:
Two Sleeper:
One bedroom/lounge/kitchen with a double bed, separate bathroom with
shower and toilet.
Four Sleeper:
Two separate bedrooms, one with a double bed, one with double bunk
bed, one on top of each other. Separate shower/toilet and separate
lounge with dining nook and kitchen.
Six Sleeper:
Two separate bedrooms, one with double bed and one with two double
bunk beds . These combinations could change. Separate shower/toilet
and separate lounge with dining nook and kitchen.
Log Cabins
These are classic real wooden cabins with thatched roof. They have
all the modern conveniences, including hot plate, microwave, fridge,
bedding, linen, fan, cutlery and crockery. Bring only towels, soap,
food (or dine in the excellent restaurant) and a relaxed holiday
attitude.
Each cabin has a
separate bedroom with a double bed, a separate toilet, a separate
shower and a lounge combined with a double bunk and kitchen.
Safari Tents:
These are permanently erected tents on a solid cement foundation
with floor covering, with a fridge, hot plate, fan,
cutlery/crockery, bedding/linen and electric lights.
There are two sizes - The 4 Sleeper has four single beds and the 6
Sleeper six single beds.
Outside the tent is
an open stoep, on the same foundation, with a wooden table and bench
combination, a cement working surface and an electric plug
combination box.
Safari Tent Washing
Facilities
Near every tent is a modern, neat, clean, hot water wash-up facility
(One for every 5 tents) for cutlery, crockery and pots and pans.
Safari Tent Ablution
Facilities
The Safari tent ablution facility is newly-built, modern, clean and
with tiled floors and modern and private and individual showers and
toilets. The ladies also have a beauty section with bigger mirrors
and plugs for hairdryers and things.
Caravan & tent stands:
The resort has one of the best caravan and camping sites close to
Gauteng. There are 120 Caravan stands with 120 plug points and the
20 hectare site is big enough to accommodate a limitless number of
tents, with lots of private bush available away from the others.
Green grass and/or trees abound on the site. The stands have easy
access to electricity points and hot water wash-up facilities and
ablutions.
Backpackers/youth hostel Group Accommodation:
This is newly-built with three separate large rooms, linked with a
door between each.
Two of the rooms each have 30 beds (15 double bunks) with en suite
separate toilet and two showers per room.
The third room has two separate bedrooms with two double bunks in
each and the rest of it has 12 beds (six double bunks). It has an en
suite separate toilet and two showers. This room is ideal for
housing group leaders or teachers.
The whole hostel thus has 80 beds, divisible into 30, 30 and 20 bed
units. The way it is subdivided, it is ideal for education or
religious tours with organisers (supervisers, teachers, leaders,
councillors...) in a separate but inter-connected chalet next door.
In addition, there is a chalet also interlinked with it but with a
separate entrance also.
Electricity
In the unlikely event of no electricity, we have our own back-up - a
65 KVA and a 120 KVA Deutz generators, enough to run the whole
resort.
Kiosk shop
The kiosk shop is next to the bar and stocks the usual ice, sweets,
cigarettes, cooldrinks, chips, ice cream, milk, sugar, bread,
coffee, tea, tinned food, firewood, charcoal, tooth stuff,
toiletries, etc....
90 Seater Restaurant:
The fully licensed restaurant seats 90 people, with 11 tables inside
and 6 on the outside deck overlooking the pool area.
It is independently run by the owners (chef and manager) and caters
for anything from hamburgers to lavish meals. It is tastefully
furnished (the owners are quite artistic) with good ambience and is
a nice sociable place to be. Tel 084 328 3266.
Groups, Conferences, Weddings, Birthdays,
Celebrations:
The resort is ideally situated for this, being less than an hour’s
drive (more in peak traffic) from Johannesburg or Pretoria and
having the facilities to cater for all sizes of groups. Crockery and
cutlery is hired out by the resort. There is a semi-open lapa and an
enclosed conference centre. Tents and marquees can be erected on the
driving range to accommodate thousands. There is enough electricity
to drive the biggest bands in the country. The biggest marquee thus
far was 80 meters by 21 meters, but can be up to 200 meters long,
plus other tents on the open plain.
Facilities:
Bar
The bar has stool seating around the bar counter, tables, chairs, TV
and a pool table. Right outside the bar and kiosk are sociable table
and bench combinations overlooking the poor golfers trying to
correct slices and hooks and draws and pulls on the driving range.
Golf Driving
Range:
There is a 300m driving range near the bar and kiosk area. Balls are
hired by the bucket.
Putt Putt:
The putt-putt course has 9 holes with felt covering and the usual
obstacles. Clubs and balls can be hired.
Jacuzzi:
Next to the heated pool is a Jacuzzi inside a separate brick house
with a lockable door. Hire by the hour.
Swimming
Pools:
There is a normal temperature (only the brave use it in winter) big
swimming pool with a high water slide, in very beautiful
surroundings with lots of braai facilities under lots of trees. And
a heated pool near the bar and lapa area. A non-heated kiddies pool
is next to the lapa pool.
Day
Visitors:
Day visitors are welcome (no busses or taxis without prior
arrangement please). The big pool and braai area is especially
popular with day visitors, but they can use all the resort
facilities, including the heated pool.
Kiddies
Playground:
There is a complete skate park for skate boards and BMX’s, with all
the usual jumps and pipes and things. There are two trampolines,
swings, a combination of climbing, crawling and swinging apparatus,
a sand pit and two jumping castles.
Hiking:
There are no special routes or organized hiking trails, but the
resort is 20 hectares, with a big area not often used. This includes
a mostly dry river bed and some semi jungle that can be explored.
Security
Security is a big issue, with no less than 24 CCTV cameras in
place. These cover the perimeter fences and inside the site with
the resort’s own permanent security guards augmented by
Fidelity guards at night and over weekends. There are also huge
spotlights covering the perimeter fences.
