     The Waterberg Country Lodge is located on the Waterberg Plateau 2.5 hours drive North of Johannesburg. It is nestled under the cliffs of the Groothoek mountain approximately 27km from the town of Thabazimbi in the Limpopo (Northern) Province and provides a retreat for those seeking the unspoilt beauty and tranquillity of the bushveld. The Lodge is included in the Waterberg Biosphere Reserve which is recognised by UNESCO as one of two such reserves in South Africa.

The area is Malaria free.


The lodge is situated at the base of spectacular Kransberg mountain cliffs. The cliffs are home to one of the largest colonies of Cape Vultures and they can be seen gliding effortless above the mountain in search of food.

Relax in one of 6 luxurious en suite rooms each with a private veranda. Sip sundowners while admiring magnificent sunsets from the lodge or viewpoints overlooking the 200 meter high cliffs of the mountain and bushveld below.

Explore the bordering Marakele National Park with its thornveld savannah, rugged mountain landscapes, high altitude grassland and deep valleys which are home to a diversity of game species, including elephant, rhino, buffalo, wildebeest and leopard. Search for more than 250 bird species found in the area. Also view the largest breeding colony of Cape Vultures nesting on the cliffs above the lodge.

Situated 1750m above sea level, the winters are sunny with mild days and cool nights.

Behind the house there is an area of trees that contain over 80 different species and a short walk into the mountain gives rise to spectacular views over the surrounding region.

The lodge offers guests traditional South African cuisine. One of South Africa`s premier resorts "Sun City" is only 1.5 hours away with its spectacular golf courses, entertainment facilities and world renowned Pilanesberg National Park where the "Big five" can be seen.

Rooms
The lodge contains six en suite bedrooms. Three of the rooms have double beds while three contain 2 single beds. The communal lounge area contains many comfortable sofas and chairs where hours can be spent sitting by the fire place on cool nights taking in the familiar bushveld smell of burning hardekool wood.

Each room has its own veranda from where you have either beautiful garden views or incredible views of the overhanging cliffs.

How to get there
From Johannesburg or Pretoria proceed towards the Hartebeespoort Dam, but take the road to Brits before reaching the dam. Continue into Brits, pass through the town and continue straight on the R511 for 132km until you get to a T junction. Turn right towards Thabazimbi and pass straight through the town along the Kwaggasflakte/Alma road until the tar road ends. Continue straight on the gravel road up the Bakerspass from where it is another 4 km to the guest house on the left hand side.
