Bayete Adventure Camp

Description:

Bayete is a wonderful veld school, training opportunity and Africa eco-experience for every visitor.
Quality training, interesting programmes and exciting activities are presented. All age groups and levels are accommodated including children, the youth, scholars, students and adults.
Bayete is situated in a game farm in the heart of the Bushveld and in the foothills of the beautiful Waterberg Mountains.
Bayete is only 1½ to 2 hours traveling time from anywhere in Gauteng along the N1.

The facilities at Bayete are of high standard for the purpose, and comprises lecture halls, dormitories, mountain huts, a well-equipped kitchen, a swimming pool, sports fields, an obstacle course, hiking trails and various other facilities.

Various types of camps, training and educational excursions are presented to school children and students, families, church groups, sportsmen and the business sector.
Bayete is managed by a qualified manager who is ably assisted by a dynamic, young and professional team with whom the youth can easily identify and associate.

Accommodation:

Bayete can accommodate 300 visitors at a time, in three separate camps or complexes.

Accommodation is in the form of basic dormitories for boys and girls, with sufficient ablution facilities and showers. Separate flats/mountain huts are available for teachers or guardians. There is also an interesting Bush camp. Wholesome, good and nutritional meals are prepared by the catering team at Bayete. No visitor is involved in preparing meals. The bush camp also allows for self-catering.

Activities:

The well-being of children and visitors is a high priority for Bayete and is handled responsibly. Not more is expected of a child than he would under normal circumstances be able to achieve. Trained first aid personnel and equipment are available at Bayete. Medical services and a hospital are a mere 15 minutes away.

Courses at Bayete for scholars, students and church groups
Adventure camps, Veld school, Leadership, Character building, Prefects/RSC,Life skills, Team building, Sport, Sport clinics (rugby, netball, hockey) Nature conservation and Ecology, Father-son and Mother-daughter camps and training for the corporate sector.
The contents of each course/camp is determined beforehand in relation to the specific requirements of each group, and structured accordingly.
Courses are presented in total by the team at Bayete. Visitors may, however, elect to follow their own programmes in full or partially, or make use of outside facilitators.

Courses are structured to include, amongst others, the following: Formal lectures, role play, debate, team building, leadership, hikes in the veld, sport, recreation and camp fire evenings. The focus is also placed on environmental matters whenever applicable. A tuck-shop is available on the premises.

Whilst working with a Leader Identification group we continuously evaluate and test each individual’s leadership qualities based on the following:

Do they have proper communication skills?
Can they lead and motivate a group?
Can he/she work in a group?
Can he/she instil leadership?
Do the members of the group accept them as leaders?
Can they maintain discipline in the group?

Program

These programmes are presented in both Afrikaans and English. With every camp emphasis is put on certain skills, which is taught trough short lectures, and strengthened, tested and practically experienced through outdoor adventure activities.

Although Bayete is situated in a malaria-free environment, we still do have mosquitoes. The water in which al the water activities is done, takes place in a natural farm dam. It has a constant in and outflow of fresh water, and is according to our records Bilharzia free. All Bayete qualified field and adventure guides present the activities. All the activities are done on a “challenge by choice” concept, meaning that a learner will not be pushed to do something he/she is uncomfortable with. The learners will be motivated to participate in the activities.

Safety is of the utmost importance, and activities are presented in such a way to keep the learners safe. Programs are organized and presented in such a way that each learner will have the chance to participate in all the activities. All activities are done at own risk. No responsibility will accepted for; damage to private property, burns, or any injuries. The staff of the visiting school must attend to the minor injuries of the learners. Bayete staff will tend to injuries that are more serious. If it is serious enough for a doctor to have a look, the person will be transported to the nearest doctor, in Modimolle (Nylstroom) 12 km away.
