River Cabin and Mountain Camping in Limpopo

Zwakala River Retreat is situated on a privately owned farm in the beautiful Magoebaskloof Mountains in the Limpopo Province. We offer cottages as well as a camping site, located next to a tranquil river in the beautiful mountains.

The cottages and the campsite are right on the banks of the Broederstroom River - the source of the Great Letaba River. The river is perfect for trout fishing, tubing and swimming and is renowned for its clear waters and restorative qualities. Jump into the mountain waters and revive your soul! Legend also has it that once you have drunk the waters of the Letaba River you will always return.

We are very privileged to live on this little piece of Africa and would like to share with you a slower pace of life. Come and meet our three horses, five dogs and four chickens and when they are home, our three children and usually some more friends.

Zwakala River Retreat

Zwakala River Retreat is a perfect place to chill and get away from the stress of the city life. Our cottages are simply beautiful and we have chosen not to have electricity. Instead we believe that the simplicity of candle light and lamps, steaming hot water from a donkey boiler and a 'lekka' fire make for romance, talking, dreaming and togetherness.

Camp Site:

Our camp site is situated next to the Broederstroom River. Experience the quietness and the beauty of the stars at night. The gurgling of the river over rapids and small waterfalls will ensure the best sleep ever.

Craft Centre:

There is also a craft centre on the farm where a range of decor products are woven from invasive plants. The co-operative members will welcome you to come and try out your ancient weaving skills. These woven products can also be purchased on the farm.

Indigenous Medicinal Plants:

There is a nursery on our premises where we grow indigenous medicinal plants. Here we also dry indigenous flowers and make medicinal teas. The following indigenous medicinal plants are available at Zwakala: Artemisia Afra; Lippia Javanica; Leonotus Leonorus; Heliachrysum; St. Johns Wort - Hypericum Revolatum
