sited between cliffs where Black Eagle's nest. This
Natural Heritage Site is situated in the scenic, malaria
free Soutpansberg Mountains of the Limpopo Province.

culture of dance, drums, secret forests and lakes,
unique mythology and the magic of the sacred Mashovhela
rock pool.

Eco-Tourism
Mashovhela Lodge employs green and responsible tourism
policies, strict environmental and conservation
policies, alternative energy usage and community
development projects.
The lodge runs on alternative, renewable and sustainable
energy and guests are encouraged to support the
environmental endeavours.
Bush Lodge
Tucked away in a steep valley, surrounded by impressive
rocky outcrops, on the site of an abandoned Venda
settlement, lies our small lodge which gets its name
from the sacred Mashovhela rock pool, "Place where the
drums beat".
Our ten cosy rooms, restaurant, cocktail bar, conference
venue, boma, swimming pool, arts and crafts shop where
all built to minimize the ecological footprint and are
run on a sustainable energy program.
Accommodation
Relax in our unique ethnically decorated chalets that
evoke a special Venda village atmosphere. Our 10
intimate en-suite chalets have a unique ethnic feel,
whilst offering complete comfort and privacy. Children
are accommodated in our family friendly units.
From your own private veranda surrounded by "magube"
walls you can enjoy a cocktail under the African sun,
whilst watching the Black Eagles returning to their
nest.
Drumbeat Restaurant
The restaurant, terrace, boma and even the bush, as well
as the fully licensed bar guarantees not only variations
in food, fine South African wines, cocktails or a drink
of your choice, but a different setting for various
occasions.
Beautiful year round weather allows you the opportunity
to breakfast in the bush at one of many archaeological
sites, shadowed by a magnificent old, Baobab tree.
Wildlife
Morning Sun Nature reserve is home to a wide diversity
of wildlife including 19 species of antelope (including
rare Sharp`s grysbok, red duiker, sable, tsesebe and
eland), predators such as leopard, brown hyena, honey
badger and numerous other feline and canine, 5 primate
species, zebra, warthog and bush pig, hyrax and more.
More than 300 species of butterflies occur in the region
of 95 genera, 6 main families and 19 subfamilies. As
regards moth species, as many as 3000 species are
believed to exist in the region.

How to get there
Drive North on the N1 (toll road) to Polokwane /
Pietersburg.
Follow the signs to Makhado/Louis Trichardt and drive
further north for about 100km (toll road).
In Makhado/Louis Trichardt drive straight, passing two
4-way stops. Continue north passing a traffic circle.
Set your odometer to 0 to measure 16km.
At Mashovhela Lodge (Morning Sun Nature Reserve) turn
left and enter our gate.
Follow the sand road and signs for 4km into the mountain
valley, until you end up at the Lodge.
